Creating Tailor-Made Journal Prompts for Each New + Full Moon
Mixing astrology and AI for your wellbeing and manifestation.
For nearly a decade now, I’ve been marking in some way the full and new moons.
At first, it was attending full moon ceremonies with an amazing group of women, every month I could, for years. And when I moved further away and couldn’t attend anymore, it’s been by simply observing the energies and connecting to how I feel.
The older I get, the more I've been noticing the lunar cycles and how the energy tends to feel at each moon phase. The more I've noticed how I naturally operate in a very lunar way, with my own energy waxing and wanting throughout my personal monthly cycle.
I've been craving a way to mark my feelings and intentions, during any full and new moon I can, as a deep and practical way of connecting with myself.
And so, I've been turning to journalling, as of late.
Similar to my own cyclical pattern of creative energy, journalling has been a practice I have engaged in on and off, for over 15 years.
There are periods when journalling is my balm, providing soothing relief for the wounds I carry. My need to journal is akin to my need to breathe - I do it constantly.
And in other periods, journalling becomes a forgotten past time - something belonging to another life.
During the monthly moon circles I'd attend, the facilitators would pose questions or themes associated with this particular full or new moon, for us to reflect on and journal our answers and intentions.
For example…
If it was a Virgo full moon - “What do I need to organise or clear out in my environment to feel more peaceful and centred?”
During a Sagittarius new moon - “What new adventure or experience do I want to embark on in the coming months?”
In my wish to replicate the same practice, I decided to give myself questions and themes to reflect on by journalling, to mark the moon’s phase.
But then I thought - what if I take it up a notch?
What if I use how each full or new moon affects me personally, according to my specific natal chart, and give myself specific questions that are tailored to how this moon phase affects me, and also to the specific goals or intentions I have?
In the past few months, I’ve been putting into practice a new way to journal during the full and new moons, which has worked wonderfully for me.
I want to share with you how I do it.
You will need:
(Preparation Stage)
Your natal astrological chart - which can be created for free on astro-charts.com.
ChatGPT - here’s the link, you don't need to create an account.
Your notes app - for copying the questions (you can copy by hand into your journal, if you prefer. But there's a lot of questions and this will take a long time)
(Journalling Session)
Journal and pen/pencil.
Saved list of questions.
Candles, ambient music etc (anything that helps set the mood).
I will now give you a step-by-step breakdown of how to get personalised journal prompts, based on your personal natal chart and the specific intentions and goals you may have.
We’ll use my natal chart and an Aquarius new moon as an example.
Stage 1 - Get your natal chart
Go to astro-charts.com, enter your birth details and get your natal chart. What I like about this website, is that if you find the chart itself confusing, below there is a summary of all the important information in written form that’s easy to understand.
You will want to glean information from your chart, that is related to the particular full or new moon you want to journal on.
So if we’re talking about journalling on an Aquarius new moon, we’ll want to find the answers to these questions…
What house is Aquarius in my chart? What does that house represent?
Do I have any planets or points (lunar nodes, ascendant, imum coeli, descendant or midheaven) in Aquarius? Which ones?
Do these planets or points make any aspects to other planets and points, in my chart?
If you want to take it a step further, take a look at which degree the moon will be in and make note of the following:
If I have any planets or points in Aquarius, are they within 10 degrees of the degree of this new moon?
Do the planets or points which make strong aspects with any natal planets or points in Aquarius, make an aspect to this full moon?
If you have any planets or points within 10 degrees of the moon, then the full or new moon will be hitting those planets or points in your chart. Similarly, if you have two planets\points within 10 degrees of each other - then they will form a conjunction, which is a type of aspect.
*You can see in the chart all the aspects you have via the colourful lines that connect the different symbols. Conversely, below there will be a list of all the aspects you have in your chart. Search for ones that include any planet or point you have in the sign of the full or new moon.
Let’s use my own chart as an example…
Aquarius is in my 4th house - the house of the home, childhood, family and foundations (emotional, physical and psychological).
Yes, I have my natal Saturn in Aquarius and it tightly conjuncts my immum coeli (the point associated with my home life and inner self) in Aquarius. They’re only 2 degrees apart, so this is quite a crucial aspect.
Yes, since Saturn tightly conjuncts my immum coeli, it also squares my ascendant and descendant and opposes my midheaven. My Saturn is also squared by my natal Pluto and natal Sun, and is trined by my natal Jupiter and natal Venus. (The Pluto square Saturn is a strong aspect, but the others less so.)
*I don’t always go into that much detail in my ChatGPT request, unless I feel they’re relevant.
Stage 2 - Ask ChatGPT for tailored journal prompts
With all of the necessary information ready to use, you can now begin crafting your request for ChatGPT to create tailored journal prompts for this particular moon phase.
If you already have goals or intentions in mind, you can keep them handy too.
Open ChatGPT and create a request that follows the following formula:
“Please provide for me journal prompts for the (sign) (full\new moon), whilst taking into consideration my natal (planetary placements in sign + aspects) in my (number) house of (sign). Please also take into consideration my (goals/intentions) of (name goals or intentions).“
*If you don't have or want to add any particular goals or intentions, that's okay. Take the last sentence out, and the answers you’ll get will refer to your house’s themes for the full moon.
So to use my own chart as an example, I would create the request as such:
“Please provide for me journal prompts for the Aquarius new moon, whilst taking into consideration my natal Saturn conjunct IC in my fourth house of Aquarius. Please also take into consideration my goals of self publishing my novel.”
Once you've done that it will conjure a long list of journal prompts that are divided into sections, all relating to the themes of the sign, whether it's a full or new moon, the house it's in for you, the natal planetary aspects you included and whatever goals or intentions you mentioned.
This is an example of one section:
10. How can I deepen my emotional connection to my work and my writing process, so that it feels both purposeful and fulfilling?
How can I remind myself of why I started writing this novel in the first place, and connect with the deeper emotional reasons behind my creative process?
What emotional goals do I want to achieve through my writing, and how can I use this Aquarius New Moon to set intentions that bring greater meaning to my work?
Copy the response from ChatGPT and save them in your notes app for your journalling session. If you find that you need for ChatGPT to correct some of its responses, because of a misinterpretation on its part (e.g. it gave me prompts about writing the novel, when I’ve finished writing and am already close to publication), feel free to give it a correction and it will rework its responses.
The sections are numerous and numbered, but there are multiple journal prompts within each section that aren't numbered. I like to give the prompts within each section a letter and when I'm responding to a prompt, I refer to it in my notebook as 1a, 2c, 3b, etc.
My advice is to either delete the prompts or sections that don't resonate with you, or to keep the whole list and choose during your journalling session the prompts you feel called to write to.
Stage 3 - Set the stage and start to write!
Light those candles. Light those incense. Put on that high vibration ambient music on Spotify. Get cosy and comfy in your sacred space.
And enjoy your journalling session!
Write for however long you want. Jump around and answer in any way you like. Let your words wander as you write, adhering to the prompts as much or as little as you want.
If you’ve reached the end of this post and will be giving it a try, please let me know how it works for you!
Happy Full Moon! Or New Moon - depending on when you’re reading this.
Do you like to commemorate the new and full moons, in any way? If so - how? Do you use AI for your wellbeing or manifestation process? How did your journal session with ChatGPT’s tailored prompts go?
