Jeremiah Knight is a Ferocious Mama Bear
"Meet The Character" - An interview series with the main characters from my novel The Source Of The Wind!
Hey everyone!
I’m so excited to continue the new mini series called “Meet The Character”, where I interview the main characters from my upcoming novel “The Source of The Wind”!
If you haven’t read the first interview with the main character, Raphi Cohen, you can do so by clicking on this link. She has so much to offer and I wish she had more confidence in herself. I know you’ll fall in love with her.
But here, we’ll be getting to know her smart, loyal and fierce best friend, Jeremiah Knight.
So let’s get to know him!
Ella: Hey Jeremiah, how are you? My name is…
Jeremiah: Okay, stop right this second and don't say another word. I know all about your shtick and I want to set the record straight - I don't believe you for a second. Your story of us being characters in a story you wrote, doesn't make any sense and I'm not buying it.
E: Oh, uh…
J: I know that Raphi ended up having a positive experience with you, which I'm glad. But she's sweet and wants to believe the best in everyone. I'm not going to let you continue spinning stories and I’m putting a stop to this.
E: Okay, I know you're very protective of Raphi, but…
J: You're damn right I'm protective of Raphi! She's been through so much and she's still going through so much. If you think that I'm going to let you continue, when she’s already going through so much, you are sorely mistaken.
E: Are you talking about the situation with Georgia?
J: (Pauses). You know very well that I'm talking about the situation with Georgia and, presumably, you know what else I'm talking about. All the shit she's been through. What I don't understand, is how you know anything about her at all, when she, nor I, know you.
E: I understand you don't trust me, and though it might be hard to believe, I actually love you for that. But you said that you don't believe that you’re characters in a story I wrote, so I'm not sure what more I can say.
J: Nothing. Rendering this ‘interview’ pointless.
E: Well, even if you don't trust me - maybe you can trust Raphi? You're right that she's sweet and wants to believe the best in people. But she's also extremely discerning and, as her best friend, you know that she’s very cautious with who she trusts enough to open up to. So if Raphi managed to trust me, maybe you can trust that?
J: …
E: Jeremiah?
J: Fine. You have a point.
E: (exhales) Okay! So, please tell us about yourself.
J: Seriously? Is this really necessary? If I'm to believe your story that we’re characters you created, then you already know everything about me.
E: Yes, but my readers don't know you. And, you know, I’d like for them to get to know you so that maybe they’d be interested in reading The Source of The Wind. It may be Raphi's story, but you're a crucial part of her life.
J: Fine. My name is Jeremiah Knight. I work as a lawyer in a top law firm in London. I’m dating Kyle Hawthorne. And Raphi Cohen is my best friend.
E: It's obvious that you are very loyal to Raphi. I'm curious as to why that is. What has she meant to you?
J: She has meant everything to me. Not only has she always been there for me, when I’ve needed her. But she reminds me that the world isn’t always a cold, dark and cruel place. Her innate goodness softens me. She sees the real me. Not all sorts of ideas, masks and stereotypes that the rest of the world sees.
E: Wow, that’s so wonderful to hear! I’m sure she would love to hear that.
J: She knows.
E: When is it that you feel you have to wear these masks? At work? Out in the world?
J: (pauses) I’m not interested in turning this interview into a therapy session.
E: Oh, sorry. That’s not my intention. You were just being very honest, and I thought…
J: I have no problem with going to therapy, if it’s needed. I’ve done it before, and it was very helpful. I’m always convincing Raphi that she should go, to no avail. But I’m not interested in divulging further. Let’s just say that I don’t always find being out in the world, or work, easy. But I know how to handle those things. I’m very good at what I do.
E: That’s totally fair and I appreciate your honesty. Let’s move on then. (pauses) You mentioned that you were dating someone called Kyle Hawthorne. Could you talk about that?
J: (suppresses a smile) Yes.
E: What’s he like?
J: Kyle is something else. He’s not from this planet.
E: (smiles) In what way?
J: He doesn’t operate like the rest of us. How can anyone be that happy all the time? Always seeing the good in others and in the world? I don’t get it, but he’s not putting it on. He’s the most genuine person I’ve ever met. He’s this self-generating light that never turns off, brightening every space he’s in. And he accepts me for exactly who I am.
E: It sounds like you’ve found someone who inspires you and brings a lot of light into your life.
J: Yes. (suppresses a smile) I’d say that’s accurate.
E: You deserve all the happiness and love, Jeremiah.
J: Thank you.
E: So, I have one final question for you. Is that okay?
J: Sure. If you must.
E: Do you believe in magic? That help can be found via magical sources?
…
E: Jeremiah?
…
E: Hello? I guess we lost him…
